Justification
Our physiotherapy course "Pediatric Chest Physical Therapy" is aimed at those physiotherapists and physiotherapy students who want to deepen the knowledge and treatment of respiratory diseases in the child, as well as the pulmonary complications that occur in the course of other neurological and/or motor pediatric pathologies.
Goals
- Know the general anatomical, physiological and biomechanical characteristics of the respiratory system, as well as the differences between the adult, the child and the baby.
- Know the respiratory patterns in respiratory physiotherapy: Obstruction and Restriction.
- Know the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms of the main diseases in pediatrics, including the special characteristics of neuromuscular/neurological diseases.
- Provide the physiotherapist with the knowledge and tools necessary to carry out a complete physical examination, assessment and auscultation.
- Become familiar with the different types of respiratory sounds, and identify the specific characteristics of these in infants.
- Know the objectives and physiological effects of manual and instrumental techniques of the chest physical therapy.
- Be able to decide when and how to apply each of the techniques correctly.
- Use clinical reasoning to decide which techniques to use and in what order, to ensure the best possible treatment for patients.
- Know the principles of inhaled therapy, know how and when apply it, in order to optimize the pulmonary deposition of the drug.
- Be able to teach to parents/patients the correct use of the different devices within inhaled therapy.
- Know how to guide parents in managing the disease, and explain some basic rules for the home (hygiene, detection of signs and symptoms, degree of temperature and humidity, hydration...).
Methodology
The course is divided into episodes and each one of them forms a lesson.
The lessons consist of a set of videos about the theoretical part and different videos with the practical demonstrations of the techniques.
The student will have access to the course from the date indicated and will have 18 months to complete it. To pass the training, you must watch and study all audiovisual content and pass the final exam.
The course lasts 20 hours, which correspond to the visualization of the different chapters, the study of the notes in PDF format and the completion of the exam. Therefore, the student must carry out active work at home in order to pass the training.
